Places to Visit

The Norfolk Broads National Park is made up of 40 inland filled broads connected by 125 miles of waterways. This unique landscape is fully appreciated from a tour on the broads, which can be taken from Wroxham to the beautiful Salhouse and Malthouse Broads, Horning  or Potter Heighham.

Ranworth Broad Nature Reserve is well worth a visit with its Floating Broads Wildlife Centre which is reached by a boardwalk and has excellent views over the broad. Great Crested Grebes are seen all year, with sightings of Kingfisher and Marsh Harriers. Common Turns nest in front of the centre and Cormorants roost in the dead trees on the reserve.

Norwich boasts some of the most beautiful architectural sites spanning 2000 years of history. The castle museum is one of the finest spectacular Norman buildings in Europe. Norwich Cathedral has a visitor centre which is well worth a visit, with the second tallest spire and the largest cloister in England. Being in the top 10 shopping destinations in the UK,

there is a large collection of high street shops and The Lanes is a medieval area of Norwich made up of alleyways with a vast selection of quaint independent shops.

Norwich Market is the largest open-air market in the country trading 6 days a week.

The Georgian market town of Aylsham approximately 4 miles away has a variety of retail outlets including Tesco and Co-Op, weekly auction sales and farmer’s markets.  For cyclists, the 26 mile Marriott’s Way stretches from Aylsham to Norwich.

The Bure Valley Railway is Norfolk’s longest 15inch gauge line which runs between Aylsham and Wroxham. There is a path/cycle track running alongside this narrow-gauge line. Wroxham and Norfolk’s renowned Broads are only 10 miles away.

Located in the heart of the North Norfolk Coast Area of Outstanding Beauty is Blakeney Nature Reserve.  The four-mile shingle spit known as Blakeney Point provides a perfect habitat for the resident seals. The best way to see the seals is to take a boat trip from Morston Quay (just next to Blakeney) where you will be taken to Blakeney Point and can visit the lifeboat house and stroll around the point at leisure.

 Holt is a Georgian town with a reputation for Boutiques, Antique Shops, Art Galleries Book shops and lots of independent shops.  There are cafes for afternoon tea and various places to eat. The North Norfolk Steam Railway – The Poppy Line - is located just outside the town with parking at the station. The train travels to Sheringham via Weybourne.

Blickling Hall is a stately home in the care of the National Trust. The 55-acre formal and informal gardens, which were landscaped by Humphrey Repton include woodland, specimen tress, a Victorian Garden, topiary, a kitchen garden and 18th century yew tree hedging.
